How has nobody mentioned this yet!?
FACTION! Balthazar Faction is the single greatest addition to GW, with the permanent increase of reward as a joined bit.

There were so many great updates sinve the very beginning that the game changed alot.
If I were to choose one, my favorite would be the introducion of Balthazar Faction points as a pvp reward (it really sucked without them, even at their first very low rates)

It already happened. In the first few months Diversion was so overpovered that it was sick (1 sec cast time if i remember right)

Only hurt farmers not abusing the game and people who couldn't or didn't want to play with other people - Orion has two skills: firestorm and fireball.

all of them really are good i would have to say but one that has the biggest impact would be the attributes i guess.. i totally forgot about that untill you mentioned it.

NOT having to earn back attribute points so they can now be moved freely to change a build instead of getting them back through experience....nothing sadder than misplacing them and having to play with a gimped character to move them where you want them...Whoever made that choice is going on my Christmahoniquansica list.

Faction point increase
Removal of refund points
Headgear toggle
Despised the AoE update... I don't disagree with it or find it harder to run my builds, but I didn't like it... miss my baltha aura for farming
Ineptitude buff was pretty awesome too

As a MM; I am going to say the MM nerf, it used to be any idiot would grab a couple off MM spells and he is ready to go no with planning no skills. Now you need to pay attention to your health and the minion's health, it's a challenge, also now to MMs can be on the same team.

Many many updates!
The removal of 'refund' points for one,
Faction, best invention ever.
Green items rate very highly
but most of all,
Wintersday! I wasn't around for Haloween, so wintersday was the most fun, especially because the rest of my christmas was pretty sucky [/emo]

The AoE nerf made people notice that Necromancers, Rangers, and Mesmers exist.
Well, maybe not mesmers.

There are so many good ones to choose from.
I agree with the OP though I think.
Oh, and Green Items and Observer mode were very good updates as well
